Piped or bottled gas?

OnGas offers the ultimate choice in expertise for deciding what is best for your business. Our experienced Engineers will assess your needs and advise on the best option for you:

Piped natural gas

How does it work?

If the natural gas piped network is in your street, OnGas can arrange for an underground pipe to be laid from the gas network main in the street to business. Alternatively, a piped LPG supply or ‘bulk supply’ may be available.

Piped LPG

How does it work?

Piped LPG or ‘bulk supply’ offers a large LPG storage tank located on site. The product is delivered underground from a vessel through pipes located on the customers site to the end use application. A typical storage tank is between 2 - 4 tonnes, with much large capacity available in specific circumstances. Tanks are stored under or over ground, depending on the situation.

New subdivisions also have the option of choosing a bulk supply tank. A 20 tonne tank will service around 500 homes and is filled on a regular basis.

Bottled gas

How does it work?

For small business, an installation will consist of two 45 kg cylinders. The supply will automatically change over to a reserve cylinder to ensure the customer does not run out of gas. A regulator is supplied as part of the system installed by the gasfitter. This indicates whether a cylinder has become empty. The customer contacts OnGas to re order, and the empty cylinders will be removed and replaced with full ones.

For small - medium business, multiple cylinders can be stored on site. These are contained in a cylinder cage, generally on the outskirts of the customer’s site to ensure easy access for refilling. Customers have a standing order where the fill is supplied on the same day every week, and this can be adapted in accordance with demand.
