Getting Connected
Piped or bottled gas?
OnGas offers the ultimate choice when it comes to your gas supply. Most homes in the country can benefit from OnGas. These are your options:
Piped natural gas

How does it work?
The advantage of piped gas is that you are permanently connected to the gas supply. The natural gas piped network is owned and operated by Vector Limited. If the natural gas piped network is in your street, Vector can arrange for an underground pipe to be laid from the gas network main in the street to your home. In some cases, this connection will be free. Piped LPG may be an option if the natural gas network is not in your street.*

Bottled Gas - LPG

How does it work?
If your home is accessible for deliveries and within our delivery area, OnGas can arrange for a bottle connection. A typical installation consists of two 45kg cylinders. This is a great option for homes not on the reticulated gas network, so think of bottled gas as your own private gas supply.
Installation

External Surround Cover2
OnGas delivers two 45kg cylinders to your home once your account is set up. Your registered gasfitter does the connection which includes supplying the regulator, chains and hooks and/or concrete slabs, plus the pipe-work to connect your appliances. The gasfitter will also provide you a copy of the “Certificate of Compliance” on completion.

Flush-mounted Cabinet2
Cylinders are mounted to the outside of your home and can be covered by flush-mounting into the building or by using an external surround cover1.
Reorder and refill of cylinders
To ensure you have a continuous supply of gas, OnGas recommends your cylinder station is equipped with an “autochange regulator” (pictured below). Several types are available and all autochange regulators use a visual indicator to advise you when a cylinder has become empty and has switched over to draw gas from the other cylinder.
While some indicators start off green and others clear, they all turn red when the first cylinder is empty. Do not touch or turn the dial. When you see it turn red, that’s your signal to call OnGas for a refill delivery. We will pick up the empty cylinder and replace it with a full one, and reset the regulator.
If your cylinder station has a “manual” regulator, you will need to turn on the valve on your reserve cylinder once the first cylinder is empty. Gas is then drawn from the reserve cylinder. Contact OnGas to re-order a replacement.
Reading an autochange regulator

Green or clear indicator means the cylinder has gas.
Red indicator with arrow means the cylinder is empty, and gas is now drawing from the other cylinder. Call to
re-order a replacement cylinder. Do not touch/alter the indicator dial. The OnGas delivery driver will reset it when they replace the cylinder.
1 Supply of covers or build of flush-mounted cabinet is not part of the cylinder delivery and installation by OnGas. Call us for contact details of cover suppliers or speak to your builder or gasfitter.

How does it work?

In some circumstances, such as new subdivisions where the natural gas network is not available, piped LPG may be available. A bulk vessel safely stores a large supply of LPG on site and gas travels through underground pipes to the home. This option is currently available in selected areas only, and an OnGas representative on 0800 84 12 12 can advise if piped LPG is available in your subdivision.
