Piped Gas

These steps are for piped natural gas. In some circumstances, such as new subdivisions where the natural gas network is not available, piped LPG may be available. Call 0800 84 12 12 to find out more.

4 simple steps

1. 

   Call 0800 42 75 48 if you are in the Auckland area, or
   0800 22 22 60 for the rest of the North Island. We will tell you if the piped natural gas network is in your street, and can arrange a free site visit if necessary.

   
2. 

   Choose your appliances. A great range of gas appliances are available from an approved OnGas retailer. Let us put you in touch with one who can give advice on what is right for you.

   
3. 

   Choose your gas supplier. We can advise on the energy retailers in your area who will bill you for the gas you use.

   
4. 

   Choose your gasfitter - your appliance retailer can assist. A certified gasfitter will install and run pipes from the meter to the various points around your home and install the appliances.

   

The gas is On! Your gasfitter will turn on the gas and ensure the installation is safe and meets all industry codes and standards. It is a legal requirement that a “Gasfitting Certification Certificate” is issued to you on completion.

Laying the pipe

The new gas service pipe will be laid from the street to your house and the gas meter mounted in a suitable location. New drilling technology means many installations can be completed with minimal disruption to driveways and gardens. In some cases, a Road Opening Notice will need to be obtained from the local council and OnGas will arrange this for you.
