The built in safety features of today’s modern appliances and advances in technology ensure that gas is a safe energy option, and it is the owner’s responsibility to ensure appliances are regularly maintained and kept in good working order. Today’s gas appliances include many built in safety features such as automatic shut off features should the appliance be tilted or knocked over.

There are strict regulations which determine the distance meters and LPG bottles can be positioned from openings such as doors, windows, air vents or flue terminals. Bottles can be installed against building walls but must be secured by means of a chain or stored in their own well ventilated cage or enclosure.

OnGas bottles are regularly maintained as part of the annual rental fee. As part of our procedure, every bottle is checked for leaks and defects when being re-filled and removed from service if necessary.

Any gas appliance that is installed into your home must be done by a Registered Gasfitter, who will issue a “Gasfitting Certification Certificate” on completion. This states that the work has been completed in accordance with regulatory requirements and your system and appliance has been tested and is safe. The gasfitter must supply you with a copy of the certificate for you to keep. If you do not receive a certificate at the time of completion, the gasfitter has five working days in which to issue it to you. This is a legal requirement under the gas regulations.
